For nearly one hundred years the Ruiz family has been growing and processing some of the finest coffee in Panama. Located at the base of the Baru Volcano, the Ruiz family farm was established in 1921. The Casa Ruiz company was formed in 1979. Today, brother and sister Maria and Plinio Ruiz run the family owned operation in Boquete, Panama. Like their predecessors, Maria and Plinio are dedicated to growing traditional coffee varieties in the cool, high altitude, shade-growing environment of Boquete.
In addition to their own family farms, over three hundred local small-scale family farms partner with the Ruiz family, to process and market their coffee. Three generations of the Ruiz family have been dedicated to the art of producing high quality coffee by recognising what has been entrusted to them through the environment, traditional coffee varieties and natural-system growing methods, and through the empowerment of their workers and their industry partners.
